Jon Champion is one of the UK’s leading sports broadcasters having enjoyed successful spells with the BBC and ITV before working as chief commentator for Setanta Sports and ESPN. His voice is also known around the world through his commentaries on the Barclays Premier League and his narration of computer game ProEvolution Soccer.
Jon began his career with BBC Radio, subsequently becoming an integral part of BBC Television’s iconic football show, Match of the Day. In 2001, he joined ITV to commentate on the UEFA Champions League before signing up with ESPN for the channel’s UK launch in 2009.
Jon has covered the last seven FIFA World Cups. In 2014 he was nominated as Best Newcomer in American Sports Broadcasting for his work on the World Cup in Brazil for ESPN in the USA. His other credits include World Cups in cricket, rugby union and rugby league plus three Olympic Games. He has also been part of the ‘Test Match Special’ commentary team.
His words accompany many of the most famous footballing moments of the last two decades, among them Eric Cantona’s leap into the crowd and Michael Owen’s World Cup wonder-goal against Argentina.
Jon is an accomplished corporate host and has a long list of commercial voiceovers to his name. He lives in Gloucestershire with his wife and four (inquisitive) children.
